光合成により大気中のCO2濃度が上昇すると植物の生産性が高くなり (CO2の肥料効果)、その効果には大小の間に3倍の開きがある。地域により差はあるが、CO2の肥料効果は二酸化炭素吸収源としての大きな役割を果たしている
