アルゴンヌ国立研究所とシカゴ大学との共同で、代表的な3種類のスイッチグラスを選び、7年間の比較対象実験を行い、成長速度、耐気候変動、害虫などへの抵抗力、収穫量などの調査を行い、遺伝的多様性に富んだ種がいちばん優れていることを確認した。
