重量、コストの低減、車の寿命改善に寄与するなら、自動車メーカはバイオプラスチックの利用に前向きである。日本でも三菱化学が植物由来のポリカーボネート系樹脂Durabioを発売した。ヨーロッパではエンジンルーム内の金属チューブとナイロン１１製チューブと金属チューブとの代替が進んでいる。
